I'm still in shock when I look at the calendar and see we are in October. What a quick start to the school year.
There was a buzz in the room this morning. Our class has spent a significant chunk of time focusing on the idea of being Genius, being innovative, and looking at the seven habitudes (perseverance, self-awareness, courage, curiosity, imagination, passion and adaptability. Yesterday they picked a well known figure, did some reading, and figured out which of these habitudes their chosen individual portrayed.
Tying in with our Genius Hour work, we have shifted our focus to Caine's Arcade and the Cardboard Challenge (click here to see the videos we've watched). A small group of individuals joined me for lunch yesterday and we planned on how we can incorporate the Cardboard Challenge in our class. We pitched the idea to the whole class today and the ideas started to flow. We will take some time next week to build our cardboard games. (See HERE for our classroom notes). So remember (and remind kids) to bring what they need to do their construction work on Tuesday. I look forward to seeing the creations come to life.
Today we did our "What Stuck With You", and kids were asked to write what stuck with them in terms of school content as well as life in general. I was impressed by the number of students who mentioned our number talks and math related ideas. We've been talking about being more positive in math, and these few positive comments show a shift in the right direction.
Please check out the classroom photos as I added some pictures I captured during the Terry Fox run.
Have a great weekend! Below are some images from "What stuck with us"
